So You Think You Are A Failure?

Written by Steve Popoola on July 24th, 2011

He had just won one of the fiercest battles of his life and was undoubtedly in very high spirits. Seeing God in action at a time you expect gives one an exhilarating effect. It makes you want to face the world with a ‘Bring it on!’ attitude because you have just seen an awesome demonstration of the power of God. This was how Elijah must have felt after the victory on mount Carmel. (1 Kings 18)

Just A Heartbeat Away

Written by Steve Popoola on July 24th, 2011

Sometimes at the end of the day I would wonder, ‘where did the time go?’ This happens most times when I was extremely busy at work or on a project and I lost all sense of time while battling with the assignment.

Looking back at my forty plus years on earth, I can’t help but think, ‘where did all those years go?’ Yet as I think of this, the clock in my living room continues to count the seconds without stopping. It goes ‘tick-tock tick-tock’ without caring about my concerns about the movement of time. It makes me remember the various sayings about time, ‘Time waits for no one’ and ‘A stitch in time saves nine’

The Flashlight

Written by Steve Popoola on July 24th, 2011

I woke up this morning and lay on my bed meditating. While doing this, my eyes turned towards a corner of my bed where I had placed a flashlight. There was nothing strange about the flashlight as I had used it the night before and it was usual for me to keep it near me when I am in bed, in case here is a power outage anytime during the night.

The Promise Keeper

Written by Steve Popoola on July 24th, 2011

“Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations” Duet 7:9

Promises. People make them and break them every day. Some people sincerely make promises believing that they will be able to keep them, while others make empty promises knowing that they have no intention of keeping them.

Our Help

Written by Steve Popoola on July 24th, 2011

Have you ever found yourself in a helpless situation? A place where you needed help and no one was there to give you the needed help? Well, I have been in that situation and I know how it feels to be abandoned and rejected.

Jesus tells us the story of the traveler who was waylaid by robbers on the way. He was stripped of all that he had, was beaten and left for dead. We are not told when the incident happened but what we know is that after the man had been left for a while, people began to pass by.

No Dead Ends With God

Written by Steve Popoola on July 24th, 2011

I have discovered in my years of Christian experience, that when it comes to God, there are no dead ends.

In times past, I  found myself in situations where it seemed like there was no way out. I would evaluate all kinds of solution plans but each would lead to dead ends. I would despair and wonder whether to seek alternate routes or give up altogether. One day however, I was confronted with a scripture verse that changed my attitude to the tough situations in life.

Measuring Japan’s Tragedy

Written by Rubel Shelly on July 24th, 2011

All of us have heard the grim news. A 9.0-magnitude earthquake struck Japan last Friday. The massive temblor struck at 2:46 p.m. local time and did significant damage to highways, homes, and factories. Amazingly, although they suffered damage, major buildings near the epicenter – designed to withstand Japan’s frequent earthquakes – did not collapse. But the worst was yet to come.

What Was God Thinking?

Written by Steve Popoola on July 24th, 2011

My friend and I were chatting online a few days ago about the devastation of the many parts of Japan due to the twin-events of the earthquake and the tsunami.  I was giving her graphic details of what I was watching on TV;  huge waves as tall as 27 feet, travelling at 500km/h and  wrecking everything in its path.

As we wondered about the scope and the extent of the carnage, she asked, ‘I wonder what God was thinking when all this was happening?’  I asked her what she meant and she said, ‘Couldn’t He have prevented it from happening?’ My reply was, ‘God made a perfect world but man took a decision contrary to God’s command and since then, we have been  facing the consequences’.

Your Life in God’s Mission

Written by Rubel Shelly on July 24th, 2011

For the sake of argument, let me assume that you have a career path. It may have been challenged of late, and you may be functioning outside your sweet spot. But there is something for which you see yourself best suited. You hope that career will make it possible for you to pay your bills, take care of your family responsibilities, and provide a certain standard of living. You probably also expect it to provide certain less-tangible rewards as titles and social standing.

The Lord’s Prayer (Edited by Steve Popoola)

Written by Renee Butler on July 24th, 2011

As I was driving to work this morning, I felt like praying the Lord’s Prayer.  I prayed it slow… allowing for time to think about each part and what that might mean for this day.  I wanted to make it personal… individual… so I started to pray…

“Our Father, who art in Heaven…”   He is not just my Father, but ours. He has no favourites but He listens to anyone who calls upon Him.
