When we look around us, we see people of no faith seemingly doing well in their lives and not having to deal with problems that we are aware of, including those that we have to deal with and it makes us wonder, “Why do we really need to pray? Does prayer even change anything? Won’t life just happen whether we pray or not?” These are some of the questions we will attempt to answer in this article. To understand why prayer is important, we need to go back to the first time prayer was mentioned in the scriptures. When God created Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, we are not entirely sure what the mode of communication between God and man was. We know that in Genesis 2:16, God commanded the man not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil telling him the conse...
We live in a world where so much is happening around us to bring discouragement to our souls. Almost endlessly, the news cycle spews out bad events happening around the world. It always seem as if there is a factory churning out these bad events; from people being killed in shootings to deaths caused by nature. It can be overwhelming being at the receiving end of these events day in and day out and many are desperate for answers to questions like, ‘Why are these things happening?’ and “what can be done to prevent these things from re-occurring”These are really difficult questions to answer and we won’t be the first ones to ask these questions. Most of the Psalms was written by David and in Psalms 10 he asks, “Why, Lord, do you stand...
Whether we realise it or not, we make promises every day. Whenever you subscribe to a service or buy a product, you are making a promise to the seller of the service or product that you will exchange value for what you need from them. The question is, do we always keep our promises? The answer is easy, we don’t. Most of the time we don’t break promises because we want to, oftentimes we are unable to fulfil the promises that we made because circumstances changed. As another Christmas draws near, I am reminded that the story of Jesus isn’t just about a baby born in Bethlehem. It is about a promise fulfilled. When Adam and Eve disobeyed God and exposed mankind to the consequences of sin, God made a promise in Genesis 3:15, “And I will put enmity between you and the woman,...
How do you feel when you meet with someone very important? Even better, what if you had the opportunity to spend time with someone really important? Generally speaking, there is usually a sense of excitement when someone anticipates meeting someone they’ve only heard of but not actually met.As I was thinking about this, I remembered one of my friends many years ago who met someone important and shook hands with them. Jokingly, he raised his hands and said, “I’m never going to wash this hand again”.While it is always exciting to have the opportunity to meet with famous people, the effect of that meeting soon fades away. In come cases, after spending time some famous personalities, people have often come away with a sense of disappointment because they discov...
The year 2022 has been a very difficult one for many and it hasn’t even ended yet. The year began with global concern as Russian forces massed the Ukrainian border. On February 24th, the Russians began what they referred to as ‘special military operation’ by attacking several Ukrainian cities including the capital city Kyiv. It initially looked like it would be a quick battle with the Russians swiftly taking major cities like Kherson but eight months later, the war rages on.The global effect of the war in Ukraine has been the sky rocketing of energy prices which has fuelled inflation in several countries, thereby causing untold hardship to many who before now, were barely able to make ends meet. According to the Russel Trust, food banks between Apri...
On Thursday September 8, 2022 I was in a queue to enter into BOXPARK in Wembley Park for an Awards Ceremony when my phone buzzed. I checked my screen and saw the notification from one of the news media, ‘Queen Elizabeth II is dead”. I looked around and saw that other people on the queue were doing the same. Since then, the passing of the Queen has taken centre stage in the media up till today when she was finally laid to rest. For me personally, what struck me about the Queen was her unflinching and unapologetic devotion to God and openly declaring her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. I learnt that there had been pressure on her to tone down her messages of faith but she never changed who she was or what she believed in. Her strong...
