More of God or More From God?

by Steve Popoola on May 5th, 2025

It is so easy for us as Christians to blur the line between seeking more from God and seeking more of God.

In our walk with God, it is natural to bring our needs before Him. Jesus Himself taught us to pray, “Give us this day our daily bread” (Matthew 6:11). God is not opposed to us asking for things—we are His children, and He delights in caring for us (Matthew 7:11). But problems arise when our relationship with Him becomes primarily transactional—when our prayers are...

Made For More

by Steve Popoola on April 14th, 2025

Have you ever felt like there’s more to life than what you’re experiencing right now? More than the routines, the responsibilities, and the daily grind?

That inner tug isn’t just wishful thinking—it’s a divine reminder that you were created for something greater. As Christians, we were never meant to live average, aimless lives. We are God’s workmanship, intentionally crafted for a unique purpose.

The apostle Paul reminds us of a powerful truth in his letter to the Ephesians:...

A World Without Anxiety and Fear

by Steve Popoola on March 31st, 2025

I was walking past my gym the other day, when something on a billboard caught my attention. It boldly declared, "A World Without Anxiety and Fear. Live The Life You Want," followed by a phone number to call. For a moment, I paused and thought, “Can anyone really guarantee a world without anxiety and fear?” It seemed like an attractive promise, one that many would probably desire. But could it truly be achieved?

As I continued walking, I found myself shaking my head in mild amusement,...

Guaranteed Peace

by Steve Popoola on March 3rd, 2025

When President Trump of the United States of America was campaigning for the presidency, one of the things he promised was to end the 3-year war between Russia and Ukraine. He guaranteed that he could end the war within 24 hours. It’s been over a month, and he is nowhere near fulfilling that promise. I am not making this statement to slight the President in any way but rather to state that no one can guarantee peace except God.

Throughout history, world leaders have promised peace...

The Litmus Test For Our Thinking

by Steve Popoola on February 17th, 2025

Thoughts are powerful. All the fantastic inventions we have seen in our world are products of thoughts. It is therefore not surprising that the Bible has something to say about our thoughts.

Thoughts shape our actions, character, and spiritual well-being. Scripture repeatedly emphasises the importance of the mind and the renewal of our thoughts (Romans 12:2). In Philippians 4:8, the Apostle Paul provides s guide for evaluating our thinking, a divine litmus test to help...

Preparing With Purpose

by Steve Popoola on February 3rd, 2025

The standard definition of preparation is, “The action or process of making something ready for use or service, or getting ready for some occasion, test, or duty.” It is characterised by focusing on external arrangement, usually has a clear endpoint, typically task-oriented, based on human effort and planning and it is measured by visible results.

Let us distinguish this from the spiritual definition of preparation, which is “The continuous process of being shaped and refined by God...

The Power of Encounter

by Steve Popoola on January 20th, 2025

Every person longs for transformation at some point in life—seeking change, renewal, or a fresh sense of purpose. Most of the time however, we tend to look to personal effort and external circumstances to bring about this change but the truth is that real and lasting transformation comes only through an encounter with God.

The word encounter refers to an unexpected or significant meeting. It is an experience that can change the course of one’s life. A spiritual encounter is not...

Something New

by Steve Popoola on January 6th, 2025

As we step into a new year, there’s a sense of hope and anticipation that fills the air. It is a time to dream, plan, and set new goals. But beyond the resolutions and ambitions, the promise of something new from God stands as an encouragement to those who trust in Him.

Isaiah 43:19 declares, “Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.”

What...

A Promise Kept

by Steve Popoola on December 16th, 2024

Promises are a common thread in human relationships. We make promises to our friends, family, colleagues, and even to ourselves. Yet, it is no secret that we often fail to keep them. Changes in circumstances, wavering feelings, or sheer forgetfulness can lead to broken promises, leaving disappointment in their wake.

But what if we consider promises from a divine perspective? Unlike humans, God’s promises are unfailing. His faithfulness stands unshaken, and His word is...

Not Over Yet

by Steve Popoola on December 2nd, 2024

Advent is a season of waiting, hope, and reflection. As we prepare to celebrate the birth of Jesus, we are reminded that God’s intervention changes the course of history. Advent symbolizes that even in the face of despair, the story isn’t over. It is a time to remember that when all seems lost, God is faithful to bring restoration and life.

The word “Advent” comes from the Latin adventus, meaning “coming” or “arrival.” It is a time when Christians prepare their...
