Whether we realise it or not, we make promises every day. Whenever you subscribe to a service or buy a product, you are making a promise to the seller of the service or product that you will exchange value for what you need from them. The question is, do we always keep our promises? The answer is easy, we don’t. Most of the time we don’t break promises because we want to, oftentimes we are unable to fulfil the promises that we made because circumstances changed. As another Christmas draws near, I am reminded that the story of Jesus isn’t just about a baby born in Bethlehem. It is about a promise fulfilled. When Adam and Eve disobeyed God and exposed mankind to the consequences of sin, God made a promise in Genesis 3:15, “And I will put enmity between you and the woman,...

Every year, during the days leading to Christmas, we see the same scenario playing out itself. The shopping centres are full, the cities are bustling with traffic both human and vehicular. You wonder where such a mammoth crowd emerged from all of a sudden.'But it's Christmas!' you might exclaim, and I agree with you. My question however is, 'Whose Christmas?'I was reading the account of the birth of Jesus and something struck my mind.  Mary and Joseph had gone to Bethlehem to be counted in line with the decree of Ceaser Augustus. He must have gone from inn to inn looking for accommodation and could not find any because they were all booked by others, who had al...

In my lifetime, almost half a century of Christmas days have come and gone.  As the season looms once again, there is excitement and everywhere is buzzing with pre-Christmas activity. You could feel a sense of anticipation as young and old eagerly wait for the special day to come.

Depending on the standard of living and tradition of the family, you either find children trooping to a specified location, usually under the Christmas tree to pick their presents or in the case of the less privileged, expecting to eat something specially cooked by their parents or given by neighbours and friends.

Loving Father of Our Lord Jesus Christ, As we keep this Christmas Season in memory of the Baby of Bethlehem:Give us the acquiescent faith of the young Mary,Grant us the courageous devotion of a mature Joseph, andTeach us to receive and love our children as they did the Christ Child. While we read the ancient stories of his birth yet again,May we worship with the joy of an angel chorus,Feel the eager excitement of shepherds who heard their song, andBring the Blessed Son a gift more precious than Magi could offer. When we gather with family, friends, and those whom we love most,Let us celebrate our joys and successes without boasting or envy,Help u...

When my son was about to celebrate his 2nd birthday, I spent days wondering what I would buy for him as a birthday gift.

I decided to check out a departmental store and browsed through the toy section. I could not really make up my mind on what to buy. Just as I was about to give up, I saw a toy motorcycle and I knew I had hit jackpot! My son loved motorcycles and would appreciate this toy as a birthday gift!

On the day of his birthday, I presented the gift to my son and boy, did he love it! Nothing interested him any more but his 'Okada'. Back in the day when we were living in Nigeria, that was the name given to commercial motorcyclists.

That same day however, the motorcycle and its plastic rider met their untimely end. I was quite upset, could not imagi...
