In the first part of this topic, we learned about Jesus being the good shepherd. He made this statement himself in John 10:11 and went on to explain the difference between the good shepherd and a hired hand. I wrote about how I memorised Psalms 23 as a child but did not really understand it until I gave my life to Christ.We continue to journey through Psalms 23 as we take on the second part of verse 3. “He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake”. The world we live in is full of dangerous paths into which many have fallen with grave consequences. The people who fall into these deadly traps are not necessarily gullible or unwise, but even those who are wise can inadvertently get caught up in a lie that can lead them into risky and slippery terrains.
“Dad! There’s a dog in the back yard.” It was a few years ago during a sweltering Summer day. It hadn’t rained in weeks and the grass had started to turn brown and die. I was sitting in front of my window air conditioner trying to cool down a bit when my son called to me. I walked over to the back door and looked outside. There sniffing around our back yard was the dog. He didn’t look in very good shape either. He was a mixed breed with hound dog ears but was horribly underweight. I could see the skin stretched tight over his ribs. He looked like he hadn’t eaten in weeks. I quickly grabbed two bowls and filled one with dog food and the other with water.
